Introducing Our New Specialist Extra Care Scheme

Introducing Our New Specialist Extra Care Scheme
21 Nov

We are pleased to announce the opening of a new specialist extra care scheme, developed by Positive Impact Care Group to provide high-quality homes and flexible support for adults with a range of care and support needs.

This scheme has been carefully designed for people who want to live as independently as possible, while still having access to structured, person-centred support on site when they need it.

What Is a Specialist Extra Care Scheme?

Extra care offers a bridge between fully independent living and residential care. People live in their own self-contained homes, with their own front door and private space, but can access:

  • On-site care and support tailored to their needs
  • Shared communal spaces for activities and social contact
  • A safe, well-managed environment with a consistent staff presence

Our new specialist scheme is suited to adults who may have:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • Mental health support needs
  • Physical or sensory needs alongside other complexities

The aim is simple: to provide the right support, in the right environment, so people can live safely, confidently, and on their own terms.

Designed Around People, Not Just Buildings

From the outset, this development has been shaped by the needs and aspirations of the people we support.

Key features include:

  • Self-contained apartments with modern kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas
  • Thoughtful layouts that support routine, predictability, and ease of movement
  • Calm, homely interiors rather than clinical or institutional spaces
  • Accessible communal areas for shared meals, groups, and social activities

Every detail – from lighting and acoustics to room sizes and furnishing – has been considered to help people feel comfortable, settled, and in control of their own home.

A Flexible, Person-Centred Support Model

Support within the scheme is delivered by a skilled, values-led staff team who are present on site throughout the day, with flexible arrangements available to match individual needs.

Our approach includes:

  • Individual support plans built around each person’s goals, preferences, and routines
  • Keyworking relationships to provide continuity, advocacy, and emotional support
  • Focus on progression, not just maintenance – supporting people to build skills and confidence over time

Depending on assessed needs, people may receive:

  • Support with personal care and daily living
  • Help to manage medication safely
  • Support to attend appointments and activities
  • Guidance with budgeting, cooking, housekeeping, and travel

The guiding principle is that support should enable independence, not replace it.

Community, Belonging, and Everyday Life

The scheme is more than just a building – it is intended to be a small, supportive community where people can:

  • Build friendships and positive relationships
  • Take part in shared activities, groups, and events
  • Stay connected to the wider community, not isolated from it

We work closely with local services and community organisations to support access to:

  • Education, training, and volunteering
  • Leisure, hobbies, and social opportunities
  • Health, wellbeing, and therapeutic services

People are encouraged to engage in ordinary, meaningful routines – shopping, cooking, visiting local cafés, going for walks – with staff on hand to help where needed.

Working in Partnership

As with all Positive Impact Care Group developments, this scheme has been created in partnership with commissioners, housing providers, and local professionals.

Our shared priorities include:

  • Providing high-quality, sustainable housing
  • Ensuring support is safe, consistent, and outcome-focused
  • Enabling people to remain in their local area, close to family and familiar networks

We also work alongside families and carers, recognising the vital role they play and ensuring they are involved in planning and review processes where appropriate.

Referrals and Further Information

We welcome enquiries from:

  • Health professionals and multidisciplinary teams
